Turkey vs. Tofurkey vs Turducken
Meat Type (3.5 ounce serving) | Calories | Total Fat (g) | Saturated Fat (g) | Protein (g) |
White meat | 156 | 3.2 | 1 | 29.7 |
White meat with skin | 188 | 7.4 | 2.1 | 28.5 |
Dark meat | 186 | 7.2 | 2.4 | 28.4 |
Dark meat with skin | 220 | 11.5 | 3.5 | 27.3 |
Turducken, dark meat | 187 | 8.6 | 2.8 | 27.4 |
Turducken, light meat | 161 | 4.9 | 1.5 | 29.4 |
Tofurkey | 280 | 16 | 1 | 24 |
Here's the nutritinoal truth about the infamous Tofurkey - it contains more fat and less protein. Plus it sucks ass because it isn't real meat. It's fake meat.
The Turducken (a Turkey stuffed with a duck stuffed with a chicken) is the ultimate meat combination (you can't beat meat stuffed with more meat).
So gave a good tasting and healthy Thanksgiving!

Which Meats Are Healthiest to Eat?
(from http://ezinearticles.com/?Healthy-Meat---Which-Meats-Are-The-Healthiest?&id=208228)
Man is used to eating meat it has been part of our diets for centuries, however in recent years many nutrionists have warned us about the dangers of meat. This article will separate the hype form the reality of eating meat.
Let’s look at which meat is the best to eat and what meat should be avoided and some of the Conclusions may surprise you!
Beef
Per 100g 136 calories 5.1g fat
About half the fat in beef is monounsaturated fat which is similar to the heart healthy fat that you find in olive oil.
Look for organic cuts. The reason for this is these cattle are more likely to have been fed on grass and not grain which makes the fat healthier and will contain more omega 3 which is heart friendly.
Pork
Per100g 123 calories 4g fat
Pigs tend to be intensely reared which increases the chance that pork will contain harmful chemicals. It is more important than ever in pork to go organic.
Lamb
Per 100g 156 calories 8.3g fat
Lab has a reputation as being unhealthy as it is a relatively fatty meat however lamb is one of the least intensely reared animals (the complete opposite to pork) and is relatively healthy and a great treat.
Ham
Per 100g 107 calories 3.3g of fat
Packaged ham can contain up to 37% water and have high doses of salt and even flavourings. Ham really is a meat that should only been eaten in moderation because of this.
Venison
Per 100g 120 calories 2.4g of fat
Tends to be wild or non intensively farmed it is therefore a very healthy choice for red meat lovers and one of the healthiest of all.
Bacon Per 100g 215 calories 16.5g of fat
Just like ham very high in salt and preservatives that are the subject of cancer scares. Like ham only indulge occasionally.
Chicken
Per 100g 116 calories 3.2 fat minus skin
Full of iron, zinc and vitamin B12 a great choice, but make sure its organic chickens are one of the most intensely farmed meats and these can be full of things, well you really don’t want to know!
Turkey
Per 100g 119 calories 1g fat
Is one of the leanest meats and good source of protein. Turkey is Rich in B vitamins and zinc and a great source of tryptophan a brain boosting nutrient. Like chicken a very healthy meat - Go organic.
Duck
Per 100g 11.2 fat
A very fatty meat containing a lot of saturated fat, but also contains a lot of health benefits to with big doses of Iron and Zinc and B vitamins.
As you can see there are several excellent healthy meats with turkey being the best all round choice. All of the meats above can be eaten regularly with the exception of bacon and ham and beef is not as bad for as many nutritionists claim 0 In fact its good for you!
Man is a carnivore and many of the problems and health scares to do with meat are created by man, but if you go organic you can enjoy meat anytime and be healthy and happy - Enjoy!

PowerofMeat.com
I apologize for the delay in posting, I guess I have been too busy eating MEAT!
Here's a great website that I found called "The Power of Meat" (www.powerofmeat.com) who had this great article:
Meat fact, not fiction.
One way or another your body has to have protein, iron, calcium, enzymes, Vitamin B12 and amino acids every day. Even when you find these, your body can’t always utilize them. But, when found in meat, they are highly digestible.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Meat is one of natures most balanced foods and is filled with the things that our bodies need to build and maintain muscle, gain strength and vitality, and power us through a busy day!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you do an Internet search for meat protein, iron, calcium, enzymes or amino acids the chances are you’ll find a lot of websites that tell you to avoid eating meat; and then go on to explain how you can try to recreate the balanced diet you need by consuming a complicated set of vegetables, beans and supplements. If meat wasn’t already a good naturally occurring food designed for our bodies, it wouldn’t be so hard to get what we need in vegetable form.
The fact is, meat is the most naturally occurring, well balanced and easily obtained and digested package of proteins, essential acids and source of iron and Vitamin B 12 that you can find. Somehow you must find and consume all of the things that meat provides so that your body can stay healthy. A meat based high protein diet is good for you. Even vegetarians are realizing they need meat in their diet.
If fat concerns you, eat lean meat, and don’t forget to watch out for industrial grade vegetable fats -- hydrogenated and hydrogenized vegetable oils -- i.e. trans-fatty acids (Denmark banned trans fats). When given the choice, I stick to the natural fat that’s found in meat.
We need meat. Like it or not, we’re carnivores. With great effort and commitment we can replicate much of the health benefits found in a piece of freshly cooked lean meat by substituting other things. Or we can simply fix our favorite cut of meat, eat it and take enormous steps toward giving our bodies what they need to be healthy and strong.
It’s true that like anything else, over indulgence can throw our diet out of balance if we go overboard. But the common sense approach to good health and vitality, is to eat meat along with some fresh fruits and vegetables. And, there’s nothing wrong with a piece of bread now and then, but eat it in moderation -- most breads are highly refined and contain a lot of nonessential carbohydrates. And avoid a lot of highly processed sugars, starches and snack foods. Studies show that red meat diets are not only okay, they are especially important for women.
Whatever you decide to do, be sure to exercise and get some fresh air, and try to get enough sleep at night. Your body needs to recharge.
‘Slamming’ meat and pressing for the rights of farm animals may be in vogue in some circles, but the best long term approach to living is to support the human race first, eat with balance and moderation, and use some common sense. Human beings are part of the environment and natures food chain too!
With intense discipline and good luck you could balance your diet without meat. But the power of meat in the human diet is undeniable. Meat is good for you!

Hallmark/Westland in danger of closing down
USDA orders largest meat recall: 143 mln pounds
Most of the meat probably already eaten; some went to school lunch program
By Robert Daniel, MarketWatch
The company in question, Hallmark/Westland Meat Packing Co. of Chino, Calif., was accused of animal cruelty by the Humane Society of the U.S. An investigation by the group found the company processed cows that were too sick or injured to walk, in violation of the agriculture department's rules.
Ron Vogel, an executive with the Food and Nutrition Service, said on a conference call transcribed on the agriculture department's Web site that almost all the meat has been consumed.
The probability that anyone who ate the meat would suffer ill effects is "remote," the USDA said.
The recall is designed, however, to alert the public to the situation and enable authorities to search out any of the meat that's still on shelves or in freezers.
The U.S. government bought some of the meat for its food and nutrition programs. These include the National School Lunch Program, the Emergency Food Assistance Program and the Food Assistance Program on Indian Reservations.
The government has suspended food-buying from Hallmark/Westland, Secretary of Agriculture Ed Schafer said in a statement.
The Hallmark/Westland plant has stopped operating and won't be able to resume operations until the company explains to the agriculture department how the violations occurred and shows that they have been corrected, the agency said.
Over two years, the department said, the company had killed cattle that had passed an initial inspection but then became disabled.
Hallmark/Westland "did not consistently contact" the veterinarian at the USDA's food-safety arm in situations in which cattle passed inspection but then became unable to walk before they were killed, the department said. The company was thus not compliant with government rules.
Those disabled animals must be removed from the food supply. Or after slaughter, the meat from them must be subject to additional inspection to ensure that the animals were not injured or became diseased after the initial pre-slaughter inspection, the agency said.
The recall grew out of an investigation by the Humane Society.
Three weeks ago, the Humane Society said it had obtained video evidence of company workers "kicking cows, ramming them with the blades of a forklift, jabbing them in the eyes, applying painful electric shocks, and even torturing them with a hose and water in attempts to force sick or injured animals to walk to slaughter."
The Associated Press reported that two former slaughterhouse workers seen in the video were charged by the San Bernardino County district attorney, one with felony and misdemeanor animal cruelty and the other with misdemeanors. They face as much as eight years and three years in prison respectively, AP reported.
The president of the meat company, Steve Mendell, said in a letter posted on the company's Web site that he had been "shocked and horrified" by the video.
The company has "implemented aggressive measures to ensure all employees follow our humane handling policies and procedures," he said, adding that the company is cooperating with USDA investigators.
The Humane Society's president and chief executive, Wayne Pacelle, in a statement, called the recall "a prudent decision." But he said that Congress and the USDA must strengthen laws to ensure humane treatment of animals at slaughter plants.
Robert Daniel is MarketWatch's Middle East bureau chief, based in Tel Aviv.

7 Reasons to Eat Beef You Are Not Aware Of
Is eating beef really bad for you? Does it cause heart attacks, strokes, and cancers, as we are constantly being told by diet dictocrats? It’s pretty easy to get confused, and we women are especially vulnerable, because we want to be healthy and look good, right?
What is the truth? Consider the following:
Studies indicate that, if our ancestors had not eaten red meats, the brain of humans would be 1/4 of its present size! During human evolution, our adaptation to red meat and the vital protein and fats it provides, is one of the KEY reasons behind the rapid growth in our intelligence and brain capacity.. without meat we still would be living in the trees eating bananas!
2. In regions where people have the longest lifespan, the diet is based almost exclusively on meat of ruminant animals and cultured dairy products.
3. Protein in beef and lamb provides plenty of building blocks for our body, ensuring strong lean muscles and healthy hormones.
4. Red meat is an excellent source of vital minerals like zinc, iron, and magnesium. In meat, these minerals exist in form that is much easier for the body to absorb compared to the minerals in grains and pulses.
5. Vitamin B12, which can be obtained ONLY from animal sources and which is abundant in beef, is crucial for a healthy nervous system and blood.
6. The carnitine in red meat is essential for balanced and steady functioning of the heart.
7. Beef and lamb fat is rich in linoleic and palmiotelic acids, which have strong anticancer effects and fight viruses and other pathogens.
In the next article, we will discover the best ways to cook red meat so that its vital force is not destroyed. In the meantime, remember that beef or lamb on your plate is not only a gourmet delight, but also the best way to protect your beauty and health.

PETA secretely kills thousands of animals
(from petakillsanimals.com)
As Americans learn more about People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and its eccentric founder, Hollywood stars should know the whole story. Despite the well-known animal rights group's $30 million budget, it spends very little actually caring for adoptable animals. Instead, it kills them. By the thousands.
Government records show that between 1998 and 2005, PETA killed more than 14,000 dogs and cats at its Virginia headquarters.(The group refuses to release its 2006 numbers.) In 2005, PETA killed 90 percent of the pets in its care. Some were thrown in trash dumpsters. Most were incinerated. PETA's donors footed the bill.
That's not "ethical." It's hypocritical.
"Ingrid Newkirk runs the most disingenuous animal group on the planet," said Center for Consumer Freedom Director of Research David Martosko. "PETA takes pet lovers' donations with one hand while administering lethal injections with the other."
-------------------------
Thank you Geoff, for suggesting the article. It's a shame to kill thousands of animals and store them in freezers or dumpsters - especially when they criticize people for using animals for medical research, dairy production, and food! Say No to PETA, say yes to MEATA!

Welcome to MEATA!
So what is MEATA? Basically, it is a collection of individuals who appreciate the taste and health of benefits of eating meat. It's for those who are sick of the facist propaganda materials released by another organization of similiar sounding name (hint: starts with "Pee" and ends with "ta").
We're working on getting bumper stickers, t-shirts, and other meat-eating pride paraphernalia (steak-flags anyone?). If you have some suggestions, we'd love to hear them. So far we've got a few ideas for bumper stickers:
1. WE LOVE VEGETARIANS - MORE MEAT FOR US! (Thanks to the Oregon Beef Council for the idea)
2. I HATE KIDS...BUT I LOVE MEAT.
3. IF IT DOESN'T BLEED, IT ISN'T WORTH EATING.
4. THE BEST FOOD IS FOOD WITH A FACE.
5. I'D LIKE A BIG PIECE OF MEAT IN ME
6. And of course, just plain MEATA - MEATAHOLICS.COM
Other plans include some resources for you: scientific facts about the health benefits of eating meat, meat recipee's and meaty food reviews, pictures of meat, and other sexy/cool meat related things.
Here's a video I found on YouTube of someone eating a "Double Pounder" (a McDonald's burger with 8 patties)...nice:
